I'm
researching the history of the Bardossy family and my ancestors
more than ten years.
After collecting the very incomplete and contradictory information
from the family members I began the research in the libraries and
archives.
I get a lot of datas, informations up to the present.
The research is not so easy and fast with lot of results, because
in one respect I started the research in three lines. On the other
hand the name of Bardossy is well known from the recent past.
What
are these three lines?
One
of the three lines is the ancient noble family from
Vas county. They lived and living as landowners up to the
present in nomerous villages of the county, and several of them
were public officers.
This is the line of primeminister Laszlo
Bardossy. They are using the title of nobility "bardosi"
about the village Bardos, near to Szombathely.
The second line comes from northen part of the historical
Hungary (Felvidek). This family appeared in 1768, when queen
Mary-Theresa donated
title of nobility and armalis with coat of arms to John
Bardosy and his son Anthony. He was born in Kassa and worked
as a public officer at the Goverment of Szepes county. His wife
was baroness Mary Horvath-Kissevich of Lomnicza.
Anthony was working as a lawyer in Kaposvar at the turn of the 19th
century. This line is "coming back" from Felvidek to Transdanubia.
I'm
coming from this line too.
The
third line had lived in Transylvania.
They also used the title of nobility "bardosi", because
in Maros-Torda county was an other Bardos village not far from Marosvasarhely.
The earliest mention of this family was in 1514. (Encyclopeadia
Székely) The familymembers had owned always the title of nobility.
George Bardossy (1817-1873),
a judge of the court of appeal came from this line. His wife was
countess Johanna Rhédey
of Nagyrede. Bardossy family had taken relationship to the British
Royal Dynasty through this wedding.
